All 50 states report over 25,300 monkeypox cases - CDC

On Wednesday, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky announced that health officials in the United States and Puerto Rico had confirmed more than 25,300 cases of monkeypox.

The UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, WASHINGTON (UrduPoint News / Sputnik - September 28th, 2022) Over 25,300 instances of monkeypox have been reported to US health officials, CDC Director Rochelle Walensky announced on Wednesday. This number includes cases reported from the contiguous United States and Puerto Rico.

"Since September 27th, almost 66,500 cases have been reported in 106 different countries. There have been over 25,300 confirmed cases of monkeypox in the 50 states, DC, and Puerto Rico in the United States "What Walensky had to say.

Walensky added that while the number of daily cases is decreasing, health officials are keeping a careful eye on the issue because the infection rate is rising in some locations.

Dr. Thomas Frieden, director of the CDC, said the US lacks data on severe infections in vaccinated people.

When asked if he knew of any severe cases among vaccinated persons, Walensky said, "I am not aware of any," before adding that not all jurisdictions have the resources to investigate cases among vaccinated people.

The only reliable means of contracting the virus that causes monkeypox is through intimate contact with an infected person, whether through sexual activity or not. The virus can infect humans through various entry points, including cuts, the respiratory system, the eyes, the nose, the mouth, and even bodily fluids.
